My name is Beatrice. When I was born, I was blessed with the Sight. I was immediately removed from my parents and enrolled in the Institution. At the age of twelve, I had my first true vision, earning my raven’s wings. And when I turned seventeen, one of my visions came true. Things haven’t been the same since.

The Institution depends on me to keep the City safe from our enemy, the Dreamcatchers, but I’m finding it harder to do while keeping a secret from everyone, including my best friend Gabe. It is a secret that could put us all in danger. A secret that could kill me and everyone close to me.

But the enemy has been coming to me in my dreams, and I think I’m falling in love with him. He says they’re coming. He says they’re angry. And I think I’ve already helped them win.

Stephanie ThomasStephanie Thomas has been writing ever since she could put letters together to form words. When she was a small child, she would present her mother and father with self-made newspapers filled up with make believe stories and pictures. Her love for writing followed her all throughout her schooling, where she entered and won writing contests of all sorts. Stephanie decided to become an English teacher and completed her B.A. at The Pennsylvania State University. While teaching, she later went on to get her Master’s in writing from The Johns Hopkins University. She completed her very first manuscript during her graduate studies, and by the end of the program, she had completed two more.

Stephanie is quick to tell anyone that she’s a born and raised Philadelphian, and her heart will always belong there. She moved to Baltimore with her husband, and they’ve been living there for the last five years with their doggie, Sailor, and their rabbit, Buns (aka “T Sizzle).

Action-packed, with a mix of genre's ranging from paranormal to fantasy, add in romantic elements, makes this a great read for young adults as well as adult fans of a Dystopian reads.

Taken from her family since birth, Bea are main protag. was born with violet eyes marking her as a seer. Seer's can see the future, and are kept in an Institution for training purpose's.  Highly valued for their skill, Bea's ruler "The Keeper" is the highest ranking Seer. The skill of Seer's is highly regarded, due to the fact of their ability to forsee the future, Bea being the strongest of the Seer's, due to her accuracy in fortelling the future, has a vision and forsee's an impending war against the Dreamcatcher's.

Dreamcatcher's are the opposite of the seer's, instead of seeing the future, they see the past. They control human's dreams and suck the life out of them, for their own survival. Seer's are protector's to the humans, the "Citizens".  After a Dreamcatcher is captured in the city walls, Bea's visions are filled with the Dreamcatcher's impending invasion, she alone must carry the burden of deciding which visions are true and which have been compromised by the Dreamcatcher's.

Filled with action, in a futuristic setting. Luminosity is a great read, especially if you enjoy a mix of genre's set in the future. A military like read, with some graphic scenes of war, sets the pace of this book. Some may find the pacing in the begining to be thrown in your face, and confusing at times, but it does set right itself and becomes better as you read more into this book. A love triangle is also a part of this story and some readers may find this bothersome, but for me it was not a problem.

  3. Great review! I thought many, many of the same things and ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would. I liked the military tone of it - my son plays a ton of shoot 'em video games and that part of the book reminded me of that. lol
