New Book Covers

Check out the newest 'Half-Blood Prince' cover just  revealed at Comic Con.

Half-Blood-Prince-cover.jpg

Dumbledore and Harry stand solemnly along the rocky shores of an ominous cave — readying themselves to destroy one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes. Sadly for mega fans worldwide, this isn’t a sneak peek at a new Harry Potter book, but it sure looks like one.
Author and illustrator Kazu Kibuishi, known for his graphic novel work on Flight and Amulet, continues his tenure as Harry Potter cover artist with the moody paperback cover for J.K. Rowling’s penultimate novel in the series. The cover is being revealed currently by Scholastic at Comic-Con in San Diego, but you’re seeing it online here first!  *EW

PUBLISHER'S NEWS

Penguin/Random House finalized move

With all government approvals in, Bertelsmann and Pearson moved quickly to complete the merger of Random House and the Penguin Group, finalizing the deal July 1 just as the second half of both companies' fiscal year began. As has been reported, John Makinson is chairman of Penguin Random House and Markus Dohle is serving as CEO.
While many details still need to be worked out, the completion of the deal led to a number of key appointments. In addition to being CEO of PRH worldwide, Dohle is CEO of the U.S. group. Other appointments, as outlined in a memo to employees from Dohle, are below

As outlined by its parent companies, PRH will have over 10,000 employees worldwide and publish more than 15,000 new titles every year across 250 imprints. It is estimated that the new trade publishing powerhouse will have annual revenue of $3.9 billion. Dohle noted that with both RH and Penguin performing well he plans to take his time in implementing the integration of the companies. He said in his memo that during his conversations with staff members that he was encouraged by the commitment to publish books of every type and format and to publish books across a wide spectrum of ideas.   *Publisher's Weekly

Hachette Book Group Acquires the Hyperion Adult Imprint

Bookends Hachette Book Group USA

Deciding that a standalone adult imprint does not fit with its long-range plans, Disney is selling the majority of Hyperion titles to Hachette Book Group in a deal that is expected to close in mid-July. HBG will acquire more than 1,000 adult backlist titles plus another 25 books that it will release over the next few seasons. Disney will retain the most media-related titles such as its Castle series which ties into the ABC television show of the same name. The book franchises that will remain with Disney will be overseen by Disney Publishing Worldwide. Disney’s children’s imprints, Disney and Disney-Hyperion, are not affected by the sale.
The deal includes the Hyperion name and HBG will continue to publish the Hyperion books under that imprint. Hyperion employees will stay with the company until the deal is completed and will help with transition issues. Some Hyperion employees are expected to join HBG in such areas as editorial and publicity. Other Hyperion employees will be given the opportunity to interview for other positions at Disney.  *Publisher's Weekly

Jennifer Armentrout Headshot - P 2013

New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Armentrout's YA novel is the first in the five-title "Lux" series.

Sierra Pictures will finance and produce the film adaptation of Obsidian, about a 17-year-old girl who discovers that her neighbor is anything but the normal guy next door.
Jennifer Armentrout's YA novel, published by Entangled Publishing, is the first in the five-title Lux series.
The story follows Katy Swartz as she moves to rural West Virginia just before her senior year, resigned to a life of boredom.
