A breathtaking new vision of a legendary tale. Snow White is the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman who was dispatched to kill her.

Review-

Fast-paced fantasy adventure -quick enjoyable read based on the movie.

Since I hadn't seen the movie yet, I wanted to read the book first. But, I really didn't know this book was based on the movie before I bought it.

We start the adventure based on the Snow White fairytale  by the original works of the Brothers Grimm.

King Magnus is killed on his wedding night, by the hands of his new wife Ravenna. Queen Ravenna then imprisons Snow, and takes over the kingdom. Ravenna is powered by magic, and needs beautiful girls, to steal their youth, and beauty to stay young and beautiful herself. After, many years Ravenna learns Snow White's heart will sustain the Queen's beauty forever, so the Queen set's out to fetch Snow from the dungeon. The Queen's brother goes to the dungeon to get Snow, only to be attacked by her and she flees into the Dark Forest.
Entering the Dark Forest is a death sentence, few have survived, but Snow manages to get lucky, although, I wouldn't call it luck per se. She passes out after a brief encounter with a drug-like plant. Meanwhile, back at the castle the Queen is irate and sends her brother and some forces to find and recapture Snow, with the help of a man who has actually survived trekking through the forest. The Huntsman, a drunk who is promised something in return for Snow, sets off with the Queen's men but as he sees Snow for the first time, he changes his mind and winds up helping her instead of the Queen. Now, they must escape this deadly forest or die trying.

Although, I would of loved to see more from this book as in the way of more elaborate scenes and settings it didn't disappoint or sway me from not seeing the movie. I adore fantasy novels, movies, etc.  I also love the scenes, special effects, etc. in fantasy worlds. I'll be looking forward to the movie, as the book does not depict every detail in the actual movie.

Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely. This is a thrilling debut novel from an exciting newcomer to the world of paranormal romantic suspense

Review :
This story is laden with humor and wit. The audio version was done well and I enjoyed listening to Lorelei play out each character and give her unique spin on them.

Charley Davidson a PI full of snarkiness, humor, and oh, she can see dead people. Charley helps the dead pass to the other side, she's a grim reaper. Her world is filled with ghosts, acting as their voice in the living world. She basically is ravaged with mindless request and deals with  the wayward ghost or two. But, that's not all she does, she solves mysteries, She’s a part time PI, an Albuquerque Police Department consultant who helps her uncle solve murders, and does a pretty good job at it, with the help of her circle of friends, relatives, and the occasional ghosts.
Her world is basically built upon her being a medium and solving mysteries.
The love interest in this book is the biggest mystery for Charley to solve.
Reyes, your every girls fantasy. If you love a dark, powerful, mysterious, savior, that just so happens to be seductive, and wicked good in bed, he's your man! Hmm.. Where, oh where can I get me a Reyes.

"The shadow moved, disintegrated, disappeared, and reappeared before me in the same instant. Then it was my turn to retreat. I stumbled back as a long tendril of smoke raised, and suddenly an arm was braced against the wall beside my head. [...] His mouth brushed my ear, sending shivers down my spine. “Dutch,” he whispered, and I melted into him. [...] Then his mouth covered mine and I lost all sense of reality. My world took his form, became his body, his mouth, his hands, skimming over me, surveying the hills and valleys of all that was me, his moon. His very own satellite seduced into his orbit by the sheer will of his gravity."

My version of Reyes

So good, right?
Reyes has saved Charley's life since the day she was born, as he is unique and carries his own aura of mystery. Now, I'm not going to spoil what or whom Reyes is, just think of him as a sexy hero, with paranormal powers.

This book was full of humor and one liners. I'm sharing a few with you below. Enjoy! I know I did.

Quotes
“Where you just possessed?" Cookie asked after a long moment, awe softening her voice. "'Cause let me tell you, sweetheart, if that was possession, I'm selling my soul.”
“Genius has its limitations.
Insanity...not so much" -Bumper Sticker”
"It isn’t the fall that will kill you, but the sudden stop.”

“That took balls."
"Please," I said with a snort, "that took ovaries. Of which I have
two.”

4.5/5 Stars

Review of Audio:  Excellent Audio Narrator!
Lorelei King narrated this audio version of the book, and I must say she was an excellent choice! She had snark, seduction, and a sultry tone.
To this day her voice rings out in my head whenever I think of Miss Jones book, or read any of the quotes from this book. Every time I read a bumper sticker or t-shirt, I think about this book and Miss King's narration. I loved her playing the voice of Charley and Cookie. She made them come alive as well as the other characters in this book, portraying each one in a unique voice.
*I only hope she will continue with the series, as I really cannot see anyone else replacing her.

Review:   Fantastic collection of short stories!

So, as many of you may or may not know, I'm becoming a huge fan of Rhiannon Frater and her writing style. Rhiannon has a way of sucking you into her stories, and enjoying every character that she pens.
The collection of short stories included in this book are listed below, I'll be rating all of them and reviewing a few of my favs.

The Whisper   4/5 Stars
The Two Mothers  5/5 Stars
The  Predator    5/5 Stars
Vengeance   5/5 Stars
The Aspect of Her Eyes   4/5 Stars
The Memoirs of Moniki the Great  4/5 Stars
Blood and Love  4/5 Stars

The Two Mothers

I really enjoyed this short story. Without spoiling the story for you, I will say I enjoyed the depth of the characters, and the emotions I felt where mixed. A feeling of despair, love, pain, and of self satisfaction crossed my thoughts reading  this short. A mothers love for her child, and  the desperation in her actions. A vampires desperation to mother a child. How two beings come together all for the love and protection of a child.

The Predator

This story, for me was probably the most relateable. I'm sure many can and will relate to this story.
As I myself have been through the same situation as the female character in this story. A male worker who is jealous, or wants attention from you is a definite relateable subject. Sexual  or any harassment should never be tolerated from any male.
As the hunted becomes the hunter....
I really enjoyed how the story ended!

Vengeance
Another fantastic short, Vengeance says it all. Another woman being harassed this time by her husband, ruthless bastard that he is left her for dead but not before she is saved, by the ultimate predator.
A perfect payback as she shows him what it feels like to be tortured.

The other shorts are very well executed and you will breeze through this book in no time. 4/5 Stars

Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan absorbs their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.
Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life...

Review:  Loved It!! Fantasy, strong female heroine, fast-paced adventure, laced with humor and intrigue.

First, I want to share my thoughts of this book cover, with you. This cover is what first drew me into this book. Loved the colors, flowers, and the castle in the background. I love a good fantasy read especially with a female heroine in it. So, I was excited to finally read this book.

Maria V. Snyder is an author I've never heard of, until seeing and reading this book. I'm so glad I took the plunge and started her book. She drags you into her fantasy/adventure series and has you fall for the characters. This book had all the elements I love in a fantasy book, strong characters, female heroine, adventure, magic, and a growing love story. I'll be looking forward to reading Maria's other books and cannot wait to revisit Avry and the others as their adventure continues!

Avry is a young woman who has the power to heal with her touch. She's smart, savvy, and has alot of heart. Healers, like Avry were once liked and accepted, until the plague. The plague that would kill many in the Fifteen Realms, rumored to have been started by the Healers. Avry must live in exile and must hide her identity, before she is used or killed for her gift. Reminiscent of the Salem Witch trials, ignorance of the people have left them in fear and bounties are placed on the heads of the Healers. Avry is constantly on the run, until one day when she is caught and set to be prosecuted. Jailed and destined for an early grave, she is saved by a group of men. These men have a purpose to finding one of the last healers left in existence, to save their friend, and Prince.

Prince Ryne has fallen ill, with the plague, and is only kept alive in cased in magic in a far off cave. Avry is not a fan of the Prince, and tells the group of men she will not heal him, but she must journey with the men who saved her from death now, that there is a bounty on her head. They continually save her, from groups of mercenaries, looking for her.

The men and Avry will have to journey to Prince Ryne's hideout. It is a long and adventurous journey, The leader of the group is Kerrick. He is smart, and infused with magic and mystery. Avry and Kerrick don't get along, and he basically treats her with a hard attitude. She in-turn gives it right back too him, and grows to dislike him more and more. As their journey continues, Avry is slowly coming to enjoy the friendship between the men as she is accepted into their circle of friendship. Kerrick is hard pressed for time, but shows heart in the decisions he makes, and slowly you see him falling for Avery, but he never shows his emotions to her. She thinks he is a pompous a**, but she slowly wishes he would like her. Though, she knows his heart could never choose her, and all of his actions are for saving the Prince.

The friendships between Avery and the group, is fun, and shows heart. The secondary characters in this book held my interest, as they were a vital part in the story. The men in the group brought out the lighter side of the ongoing tension Other than, Kerrick(who deep down inside, is mysterious with his feelings toward Avry) the rest of the small group embrace and grow to like Avery, and she and the men enjoy the each others company.

I'm not going to spoil the rest of the plot for you, just know that the book gets better with each turn paging chapter.
The adventure heats up as well as the emotions, as we are introduced to villains, and Avry is thrust into this villains world, he who has the power to control her emotions....

You will not be able to put this book down and will be left with a slight annoyance, because the next book in the series will be published in 2013. Though it's a happy annoyance, I still am highly awaiting their journey to continue and see where it may lead them. I must add one more thought, even though this book is listed under the young adult genre it is highly enjoyable for adults as well as young adults, and should not be overlooked.

Review~  Highly recommended series for all paranormal romance junkies.  Loved it!

This book was a roller coaster of erotic emotions. Filled with sexual heat and desire.
The story starts off where the last one ended, Players competing in the Tailsman Hie, a race to the finish for a coveted key. A key, that allows the winner to go back into the past to change the future.
In Bowen's case he wants to use this magically infused key to return to his past and bring his so-called mate, Mariah, back to life.

Bowen, a strong, alpha male Lykae living with the burden of her death on his shoulders for over 150 years, is basically a man on a mission to bring her back from the dead, so he may live a life with his "mate". Although Bowen has been living a basically dead to the world existence since his mate died, things seem to change for him during this "race" as he lays eyes upon a woman who stirs feelings in him he never has felt before.
The lovely, coy, Mariketa is a witch, in disguise. She is young and hasn't fully come into her powers. Still learning the ways of the witch, she is a mortal who hasn't reached her full potential and has yet to turn immortal. Timid at first she becomes a character you will  envy! Hell, with a sexy Lykae after  you, you'll wish you were walking in her shoes.

The story plays out mostly in the Guatemala jungle and although Bowen traps and leaves behind the witch he is soon wracked with emotions for her and can't get her out of his head. He figures she must of enchanted him, for he hasn't "felt" anything for so long.
He must set out to retrieve her or face war amongst all creatures of the lore. What ensues is a terrific storyline infused with adventure, heat, and passion, throw in a villain and all bets are off.
The ending shows Mariketa at her best, and Bowen having to choose between two woman as secrets are unmasked....

Without delving into the rest of the story I will say this book is filled with HEATED passion, bordering on erotica.
It will have you dreaming you had your very own Lykae in your bed. A determined cat and mouse teasing storyline that will leave you breathless and  aroused.
Miss Cole is an "All Star" of the paranormal romance genre, and should be read by all fans of pnr romance. 5+Stars!

    ~Favorite Quotes~

"Oh, great Hekate, is that his voice?” Carrow cried. “I just had an orgasm! Fudge your name tag if you have to, but get you some of that some-some. Remember, friends let friends live vicariously—”

“"What are my chances of stealing a kiss from you right now?" asked Bowen "None point none" answers Mariketa”

"We want you gone. Your presence is obviously upsetting her."
Oh, aye, the poor, wee lass --who tossed me like a skipping stone."

Sixteen-year-old Lex Bartleby has sucker-punched her last classmate. Fed up with her punkish, wild behavior, her parents ship her off to upstate New York to live with her Uncle Mort for the summer, hoping that a few months of dirty farm work will whip her back into shape. But Uncle Mort’s true occupation is much dirtier than that of shoveling manure.

He’s a Grim Reaper. And he’s going to teach her the family business.

Lex quickly assimilates into the peculiar world of Croak, a town populated entirely by reapers who deliver souls from this life to the next. Along with her infuriating yet intriguing partner Driggs and a rockstar crew of fellow Grim apprentices, Lex is soon zapping her Targets like a natural born Killer
.

Yet her innate ability morphs into an unchecked desire for justice—or is it vengeance?—whenever she’s forced to Kill a murder victim, craving to stop the attackers before they can strike again. So when people start to die—that is, people who aren’t supposed to be dying, people who have committed grievous crimes against the innocent—Lex’s curiosity is piqued. Her obsession grows as the bodies pile up, and a troubling question begins to swirl through her mind: if she succeeds in tracking down the murderer, will she stop the carnage—or will she ditch Croak and join in?

Review~ Good book for young adults, meh, for Adults

Reading this book as an adult and parent, I find I can relate with, and pity the main character's parents.
Lex is a mother's dream turned teenage nightmare. Lex is mean, temperamental, and a bully! She's sixteen and finds it difficult to suppress her moods and anger, sounds average, right?...I'm not looking forward to those years...
So, being like any parent at the end of their rope, they decide to send Lex away for the summer. They send her to her Uncle Mort, a bachelor whom she barely knows. This being the first time Lex will be away from her parents and twin "good" sister Cordy, she of course has reservations about going.
Lex arrives to Uncle Mort's house in a town called "Croak", where everything seems normal, but is far from it.

Lex learns she is a reaper. She doesn't kill people literally, she just helps the dying get to their final resting place, with just a touch of her finger. She works with a partner, Driggs who is a Culler. Culler's capture souls. Drigg's sounds cute and may turn out to be someone Lex may grow to like.
Sounds interesting so far and I loved the concept and mystery of the storyline. I kind of got bored in the middle, and found it to be dragged out at times. Though, I can say the author did peak my interest enough to continue  reading the book, to find out the reasons behind certain deaths, that were mysteriously happening. I knew who the "bad guy" was right from the start, but I was surprised at a death, in the hands of Lex at the end of the book. I don't want to give too much away, but I will say "I didn't see that one coming".

I'm on the fence on rating this book. I want to give it a 4 star rating but find it lacking and thought the author should of turned the story in the direction of Lex going after the "evil" in our world. The concept was there, but wasn't executed in the way I would of liked to see it go in.
Overall I'm giving it  3.5 stars. While the writing style was enjoyable, I just wanted more, more action and more interaction between Lex and Driggs.

3.5/5 stars

My Review-
Urban Fantasy with an appeal for likable characters and relationships, Action infused, magic, and shape shifting creatures.

Kate Daniels a mercenary type with a no holds bar attitude who wields a wicked, magically, enhanced sword.
Can I borrow it sometime?

Kate's longtime family friend and guardian has turned up dead alongside a vampire and the who did it questions unfurl.
Think of Kate as a tough as nails cop or pi, only enhance her and the story with magic, mystery, a cool magical sword, and creatures of all kinds.
Throw in the fact that Kate lives in a magical world where buildings are a facade of what lies behind them, shape shifters who come in all shapes and packages, necromancers, who control the evil vampires who are ghastly creatures that can and will tear your throat out, other mysterious creatures, and of course lowly humans. Its hard to trust anyone in this book, and as the mystery unravels, alliances are formed.

Curran being one of those alliances, comes in as sexy, strong, shape shifting, leader who just happens to be just as hard nosed as Kate.
Curran is just as determined as Kate to find out who is behind the killings that are going on. He is losing members of his own kind and will not tolerate another killing if he can help it. Throw in the fact that he is Kate's very own hero(though she doesn't enjoy it) their love/hate relationship is  tolerable, and playful at times.
Curran seems to be smitten by Kate more than she is him.
When we finally find out the culprit behind the savage deaths, it takes Kate by surprise. Can this ancient killer be killed, and will she finally take the help that is offered to her?
One thing is certain she will not go down without a fight and stands up to anyone and everyone she comes across with  fierceness and voracity.

Who and what is Kate Daniels? I don't know, but I'm going to find out... in the next book Magic Burns book #2 in the Kate Daniels series. 4/5 Stars
