Ever since a near-death-experience on the operating table, seventeen-year-old Arianne Wilson can see dead people. Just as she’s learned to accept her new-found talents, she discovers that the boy she’s had a crush on since freshman year, Niko Clark, is a Reaper.
At last they have something in common, but that doesn’t mean life is getting any easier. All while facing merciless bullying from the most powerful girl in school, Arianne’s world is turned upside down after Niko accidentally reaps the soul of someone she loves. This sends them both into a spiral that threatens to end Arianne’s life. But will Niko break his own Reaper’s code to save her? And what would the consequences be if he did?

Arianne can see dead people, dead, naked, people! She formed this ability after a near-death experience, mostly avoiding the "ghosts" she sees on a day to day basis, she lives a somewhat typical life as a teenager. High school, boys, friends, and of course a bully named Darla. With all the stress Ari seems to go through she still is a sweet girl. Having a sister whom basically lives in a hospital due to a kidney problems, and parents who are in and out of the hospital, you can see how much stress she must carry on a day to day basis, on top of that seeing the dead, umm yeah, not fun. But, she manages to hold a certain charm, and turns out to be a lovely character whom you will enjoy reading about.
Death is in charge of what else? Death of course!
He doesn't do this task alone, he has reapers who assist him. He comes across as larger than life and frightening at first, but he actually was caring, especially when it came to his reapers.
One of Death's reapers is the cute boy Ari is crushing on, Niko. Niko is in charge of bringing the dead to the other side for the state of Georgia. He lives as a high schooler, and is laid back and cute especially in Ari's eyes. At this point in Niko's life he has reached a point where he is depressed and seems to have lost his will to live. All that seems to change as he gets to know more and more about Ari. They enjoy each other's company, and learn about each others abilities. When things seem to be looking up for these two, the unthinkable happens and crushes Ari. Can Niko change the past and rectify his mistakes, is left to be seen as he puts everything on the line and more for Ari, but can and will it be enough for these two?
Overall, the book was pretty good. I felt at times the plot was thrown at you and you had to connect the dots to follow the story. The flow of this book is what set me off a bit. The concept of the teenage life seemed pretty much spot on. Bullies, crushes on a cute boy, friends, and all things high school was perceived well. I enjoyed reading about Niko, and the way he cared for Ari, they are super cute together. The ending of course, left me unsatisfied as a TBC, and will have you highly anticipating for the next book.
