ARMCHAIR bea Introduction 2012: Interview

This is my first year attending Armchair bea and I'm excited to be part of all the action right from home. Here is my introduction and a quick Q/A. Thanks for visiting!

Hi, everyone! Welcome to my blog. If this is your first time here or if you've visited me in the past maybe your curious to what and who is behind this blog.

  1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?
My name is Lisa, but I also have a nickname that I go by and it's Silverlight. How and why I use Silverlight, well it was a nickname given to me by a friend who is a huge video gamer and he wanted me to play some online games with him, rather than using my ohhh so boring name-Lisa he came up with Silverlight and it kind of stuck. I'm a wife, and  mom of four beautiful children all between the ages of 5 thru 9. I'm super busy, but I always find time to  read and blog because this is my hobby and it's basically all I love to do, other than going to the beach, spending time with my kids, exploring new places to hike, and I love to dance.
I'm a relatively new blogger. I started my blog at the end of Dec 11, but didn't really plunge into it until Jan 22, 12. I actually just started getting back into reading hard core in Sept 2011. Other than the summers, I never had time to read in the past. I committed to doing something that was strictly for me, as the children get older their wants and needs change so I finally had time to do what I love. I started reviewing books and socializing with peers on the site Shelfari and sometimes Goodreads. After, being on those sites and receiving positive feedback about my reviews I decided to start my own blog as a way of sharing my reviews to an even larger audience, and to interact with authors, bloggers, etc.

    2. What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012?

Well, right now I'm currently reading, Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs, The Last Bastion Of The Living by Rhiannon Frater, and Cinder by Marissa Meyer.

     3. Have your reading tastes changed since you started blogging? How?
Yes, they have changed! I used to read mostly non-fiction, bio's, and very little fiction. After watching Twilight, and reading the series, it hooked me on the whole fiction/pnr scene. From that, and when I started my blog I was reading mostly adult Pnr Romance and Urban Fantasy., but after socializing with some great bloggers I started reading YA pnr and light horror.

     4. What is your favorite part about the book blogging community? Is there anything that you would like to see change in the coming years?

My favorite part of the blogging community is making friends with some great people! I also love learning and reading about new books, or news about books/authors, and I love interacting with authors and anyone in general who happens to stop by and visit.
The only thing I wish could change would be all the drama behind the blogging community. The way some bloggers act, has a negative impact on all bloggers and it shouldn't be about the gossip and rumors. It shouldn't be about who's getting the most attention or arcs. We should try to get along and embrace our fellow bloggers instead of always finding ways to attack each other. We should be boosting our fellow bloggers up, and helping them in any way we can. It should be about our love of books. BUT, I also feel that a damaging post or comment can hurt all of us, and shouldn't be taken lightly. The best way to disagree with someone is to unfollow and not participate in the drama.
I also feel that the authors need to understand that we all have a right to our own opinion and what I may dislike, someone else may love. I wouldn't want to be blasted over a negative or positive review. We all have the right to an opinion but we all should share that right in a professional manner and expect to be treated in a professional manner.

5.If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why?
This is a very tough question, because I'm having a hard time deciding between author or character. I mean there are soooo many authors I would love to sit with, some that come to mind, JK Rowling, Stephanie Meyer, Kresley Cole, Jeaniene Frost, gosh, I could go on forever maybe it could be a banquet of authors ;) As far as character's there is one and it's always only been one that always comes to mind and that would be Bones from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress series he is my ultimate fav, character. I would love to spend an evening with him, getting to know him and seeing his funny, protective, tough guy side, maybe he can even call me poppet, once or twice! :)

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to get to know a little bit about me.

  1. Hi Lisa like the answers you gave. They were honest and at some points an eye opener. Your answer to the Book Blogging community is a good piece of advice. I too would not be able to choose who I would want to have dinner with (Author or Character)... however depending who it is I had to choose from would make the choice easier.
I like what you posted and is following you.

  5. Love your nickname. I'm the only one in my group that doesn't have a nickname. Dinner with Bones would be interesting. ;)

  6. I agree Authors do need to stop and think that we are entitled to our own opinion, Bloggers do a lot for advertising, some people for get that, not all, most Authors i know are amazing

  7. That is a big tastes change - from mostly non-fiction to paranormal/urban fiction! Love it! :) I also agree that the blogging community does tend to have a lot of drama, but I just ignore it ALL. :)

  8. Love Cat & Bones, so Jeaniene would have to be an awesome dinner guest.

  9. JK Rowling, Stephanie Meyer, Kresley Cole, Jeaniene Frost---- any of these would be great! JK would probably be on top of my list because I could listen to her accent all day LOL Next would JF and KC---could you imagine a Bones/Barrons discussion :)

  12. I'm always surprised when people mention drama! I don't see much drama, but I guess I just don't interact with the more dramatic bloggers.

  13. I would love to have dinner with Bones, too. I only "met" him in one book, but I already know he'll be one of my favorite characters.

And you are super busy, so it's so awesome that you decided to start a blog to share your books with a larger audience.

Sharing your thoughts on Goodreads is great, but having a blog of your own is just that much better.

You currently have quite a few books in your current reads. Wow! That's a skill I definitely don't have. Though I bow to those who have that ability. I think I'd make a huge mish mash of all the plots and characters. :)

And I've seen quite a few people talking today about how their favorite part is meeting people and the least is the drama. It fascinates me that we're all so alike, want the same things, and yet the drama persists and seems to be getting worse.

If we all just remembered why we were doing this - to share our thoughts with like-minded people and to talk about those books we love - a lot of the drama could probably be avoided. I really hope that changes!

It's nice to see that Twilight inspired the change for you to fiction/pnr. Especially as Bones is your favorite character and you might not have met him otherwise!

    Happy Armchair BEA week!

  14. Gah! You read non fiction too huh? That was me. I didn't answer the character or author question because it's too hard, but you have some awesome choices there! :)

  15. I totally agree about the whole book blogging drama thing! I feel sometimes that the drama gets totally out of hand, and frankly, it can get tiring at times. But, the book blogging community can be so much fun as well. =) I love that you want to have an author banquet!! Such a smart way to answer that question. ;)

It was great learning more about you! Have fun during Armchair BEA!

  17. Hey Silverlight! (cool nickname, btw!)

Thanks for stopping by today. I'm happy to meet you here!

I totally agree on the drama aspect. I'm SO ready for that to go away for good. didn't think about it while I was writing my post, or I'd have said that too! And your author banquet rocks. I'm pretty sure I'd be too nervous to actually eat, but I'd love to listen to them all talk!

  18. Lisa, sweetie!! :) Haha funny how you got your nickname!! :) I got mine .. well, my grandfather used to call me Barabina when I was little. I was a princess :P But also very hyperactive and I ran around a lot and messed up a lot :P So he called me Barabina because I always made troubles :P And then when I was 16 (he passed away when I was 11), I had 2 best friends and we made up names, that would somehow rhyme and Nea Barabina wasn't really a rhyme lol :P I think I should say, that I was wasted (not THAT much, but still :P) And we were sitting on a beach in the night and we talked about everything and anything. And in the middle of the high state and talking and crazy ideas, I came up with nea barabea. It did rhyme and it did have the basic of my grandfather nickname in it :) I stick with it from that moment :) And I love it :) :) Thank god, for that night out! lol :P :)

So happy you're participating too!! This will be so awesome!! :) :) I'm already having so much fun! :)

  19. Hey Lisa,
Great answers. It is amazing how you can follow a blog for so long and not realize how little you know about the blogger. Great learning more about you!

  20. Seroiusly, if set this dinner up, invite me! I'll be there early to help set up and even help cook because it would be worth it to eat with those authors and Bones!!

  21. WHAT? You read YA?? I had no idea?!?! hee, hee... I saw you were getting into it more and more!! What's funny is that just about everyone I talk to starts reading PNR, UF, etc. after reading Twilight. Twilight got me reading, too! I often wonder what I'd think of it now that I've read so much else since then!!

Thanks for the heads up today!!! What a day I had....

  22. I love hearing about where people get there nicknames from, the slightest little thing and they just stick for life, so fun :) I know what you mean about having some 'me' time now that the kids are a little older - it feels good, doesn't it? hee, hee!
Dinner with authors/characters, should be a big round table at Hogwarts :)
It was great to "meet" you, thanks for the follow, I'm following back! Can't wait to see what you'll be reading this summer! Happy reading!

  24. This is great to read more about the bloggers themselves. I'm loving these BEA posts. Bones is one of my favorite male characters! Love your choice & your authors choices too! Twilight got me more into reading in general. I used to read 2-3 books a year (mystery/suspense usually) and after reading Twilight, I never stopped reading. Now I read 2-3 books a week (PNR/UF/YA & some contemporary). I'm a "newer" follower :-)

  25. Oh hail, Silverlight! And again, I thank Armchair BEA for meeting another super mom. Happy Armchair Bea to you!

  26. Nice to meet you! Isn't it crazy how much your reading tastes changed? I used to read almost completely Historical Romances for years and then a little YA, but once I started blogging I've really opened up to almost anything. I mostly love YA, PNR, historical romances and post apocalyptic/dystopians. :)
