To survive, 17-year-old Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young Goblin King, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her determination to escape. But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. The full moon is mere days away, and an ancient evil being knows she’s the key to opening the portal. Chloe Jacobs is a native of nowhere and everywhere, having jumped around to practically every Province of Canada before finally settling in Ontario where she has now been living for a respectable number of years. Her husband and son are the two best people in the entire world, but they also make her wish she'd at least gotten a female cat. No such luck. And although the day job keeps her busy, she carves out as much time as possible to write. Bringing new characters to life and finding out what makes them tick and how badly she can make them suffer is one of her greatest pleasures, almost better than chocolate and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.

A fantasy world parallel to ours filled with creatures of the wild forest, Goblins, Orges, Ghouls, Wood Sprites, and more, make this story an adventurous tale.
Fast-paced, action packed, with a strong female lead, makes this a winner for fantasy fans.

Greta, the human is thrusted into the world of Mylena after trying to save her brother in our world from a witch, whom's soul purpose is to collect young human boys and transport them through a fire into the world of Mylena. Flash forward four years and Greta is living the life as a hunter, trained by a wood sprite who found her all those years ago. Lucious, aka Luke trains her in the art of killing the bad creatures of this world. Luke is basically a father figure to Greta, and they share a small cottage in the woods. Greta does her job well, and conceals her humanity.
Issac, the Goblin King, of one the territories of Mylena has plagued Greta's dreams. He is a constant in her dreams, slipping into her mind and controlling the setting to her dreams. They seemed to share some kind of history, but what that is or how they initially met, was a little hazy. Their chemistry is electric, although neither one admits their feelings, and it seems to be a sort of cat and mouse game with each other. He shows a protected nature toward Greta, but she has a hard time believing or trusting him. Although, she does harbor something for him.

Issac, shows up at a local pub/bar, which happens to be the same place Greta is. He takes her home after a scuffle at the bar, and although leery of him she lets him. As they approach the cottage, Greta notices Luke is not waiting outside for her, something he always does when he hears her coming back from a hunt/job. Fearing the worst, she enters the cottage to find everything she ever felt safe about, destroyed. Luke is now gone and she is at a loss, as to what or whom to trust. Issac wants to help her and tells her he wants to keep her safe. He seems to have an underlying reason, that is not unveiled until the end.
Greta is determined to avenge Luke's death and she sets out alone, against Issac's wishes and begins her journey to fight the most evil in Mylena, Agramon. Disguising herself in her journey proves to be difficult as there is now a bounty on her head, as the hunter becomes the hunted.

I really enjoyed this story! It was fast paced and the plot was interesting. Emotions were high, and although the romance, seemed to be there, it was a large tease of one, and a slight feel of a triangle. The story seemed to be confusing at the beginning and left me with unanswered questions, but as you read the story, questions were slowly answered in my mind, and the ending revealed most of the plot, although it did leave me hanging. This will be a series and I hope most of the questions I had in my mind are answered, especially between Issac and Greta.
All in all I would recommend this book, it was a unique concept and the creatures in the story were interesting, as well as the characters. Fast-paced, action packed, with a strong female lead, makes this a winner for me!

"You can put up walls, Greta, but sooner or later, I'll break down every last one. There won't be any secret you can keep or any part of you I don't know." He leaned foward, his voice lowering to a whisper. "Intimately"

.Book Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway: Jane Kindred -The Midnight Court

Today, on the blog I have a great guest post with Jane Kindred and why she is addicted to the paranormal{funny, I am too!} Don't forget to enter the giveaway and share some love for Jane and her books in the comments!

Against the pristine ice of Heaven, spilled blood and a demon’s fire will spark celestial war.

The exiled heir to the throne of Heaven, Grand Duchess Anazakia and her demon companions, Belphagor and Vasily, have made a comfortable home in the Russian city of Arkhangel’sk, but their domestic bliss is short lived. When their daughter Ola is taken as a pawn in Heaven’s demon revolution, the delicate fabric of their unorthodox family is torn apart—threatening to separate Belphagor and Vasily for good.

Anazakia is prepared to move Heaven and Earth to get her daughter back from Queen Aeval, risen in Elysium from the ashes of temporary defeat. But Aeval isn’t the only one seeking Ola’s strange power.

To conquer the forces amassing against them, Anazakia is prophesied to spill the blood of one close to her heart, while Vasily’s fire will prove more potent than anyone suspected. In the battle for supremacy over Heaven’s empire, loyalties will be tested and secrets will be revealed, but love will reign supernal.

Addicted to the Paranormal

Recently, I decided to take a departure from my usual genre of romantic epic fantasy and try my hand at romantic suspense. I was a voracious reader of gothic romances when I was a teenager. There was nothing better than a brooding, mysterious gentleman and a young governess who found herself irresistibly drawn to him even as she began to suspect he might be the one murdering people in the manor.

I’m probably dating myself by admitting that Victoria Holt was my favorite author. Romance has changed a bit since I was last devouring it. But romantic suspense is a close relative to the gothic tale, and I thought it would be fun to try to conjure up some of that brooding bad-boy danger and angsty “am I in love with the killer?” drama. So I started working on my new romantic suspense project, plotting it out in my stream-of-consciousness writing journal, peopling it with characters, and finding an interesting setting. So far, so good.

As I started to write, however, I couldn’t help thinking what other deep, dark secret my hero might be hiding. If he wasn’t the killer, maybe he was something else, something a little bit dangerous and different, something…paranormal. And before I knew it, a mysterious new breed of brooding bad-boy was growing in the petri dish of my imagination.

I kept trying to tell it to go away. This isn’t your story, I tried to explain. We’re not doing immortals and secret fae clans and elemental magic. This is romance. Just a nice, normal, suspenseful romance. With humans. That’s it. The story wasn’t having any. Mysterious groves started appearing, and the hero’s family secrets started getting a little bit weird. The setting I thought I’d chosen at random turned out to be the ideal place for unusual things to happen and for esoteric magic to be hidden for centuries, and the family history that should have had nothing to do with the locale suddenly fit perfectly, as if the story had meant to go there all along. I couldn’t stop myself. I was out of control.

I think I just may be addicted to the paranormal. Though it’s epic fantasy, even my current release, The Midnight Court, has demons for heroes instead of knights and wizards. I seem to be incapable of writing “normal,” and always go straight to the “para.”

And maybe there isn’t anything wrong with that. I’ll have my romance with a side of otherworldly, please. After all, some of the earliest gothic romance was all about vampires and werewolves and ghosts. I’m not exactly sure what psychological need such elements satisfy, but it does seem pretty primal. Paranormal heroes are a little bit wild, appealing to the id, feeding the desire to give oneself over to dark side and lose control—at least for a little while.

So I’m just going to embrace my paranormal addiction and enjoy the ride, and write the story that wants to be told. There’s no point in trying to force it to be something it’s not. Because we all know what happens when you try to suppress your true nature. It comes out and devours the neighbors, and buries the bones in the backyard.

About the author:

Jane Kindred began writing fantasy at age 12 in the wayback of a Plymouth Fury—which, as far as she recalls, never killed anyone…who didn’t have it coming. She spent her formative years ruining her eyes reading romance novels in the Tucson sun and watching Star Trek marathons in the dark. Although she was repeatedly urged to learn a marketable skill, she received a B.A. in Creative Writing anyway from the University of Arizona.

She now writes to the sound of San Francisco foghorns while two cats slowly but surely edge her off the side of the bed.

WHOOOO! Check out the official cover reveal to OPAL by J. L. Armentrout, I love it, and I really can't wait for this book, which will be released in December!
And, check out the hidden face in the cover, did you see it? It looks so creepy. I almost thought it was a mistake *creeped out* maybe it is....*shutters*

Expected publication: December 11th 2012 by Entangled Publishing

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarre connection. I’ve sworn him off even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But against all common sense, I’m falling for him. Hard.

Our relationship issues aren’t out biggest problem…

The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And when a new boy shows up a school with a secret of his own, things get complicated fast. I need to choose between my own instincts and Daemon’s.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. Daemon’s never going to stop searching until gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies.

Review: Shadows by Jennifer Armentrout

Shadows (Lux, #0.5)
ebook, 179 pages
Published February 21st 2012 by Entangled Publishing
ISBN:139781620610084
Series: Lux  #0.5

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane.

Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in.

Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence...and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

Review:

I read Obsidian before I read Shadows and it's not a big deal if you do read it that way. Shadows is basically the back story of Daemon's brother Dawson, and how he fell in love with a human and what the consequences and outcome of doing so did to him and his "family".
Dawson and Beth have nothing on Daemon and Katy from Obsidian, as far as intensity, heat, and passion, but I did enjoy reading about what happened to Dawson and how his actions and outcome directly affected his brother Daemon and sister Dee. We get a better understanding of why  Daemon is so hard on Katy and why he treats her unkind in Obsidian.

This book does show what happens to the Luxen when they fall in love with a human, and let me say the outcome is not good. Dawson meets Beth and has an insta love connection.
The Arum(the enemies of the Luxen) go after Dawson and Beth and their outcome is doomed right from the start.

This book is really a quick read and although Jennifer is a very good writer I felt this book didn't have the appeal that Obsidian did, maybe because I read Obsidian first? I don't know? All I do know is, if you read this book first, don't be deterred into not reading Obsidian, because that is where Jennifer shines and her talent truly comes out.

3.5-4/5

Review: Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsidian (Lux, #1)
Starting over sucks.

When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.

And then he opened his mouth.

Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.

The hot alien living next door marks me.

You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.

If I don’t kill him first, that is

REVIEW

Holy-Crap!! Really!!! This is what I was missing???
This book ignited into flames, and is still smoldering my kindle!!
Thank You Jennifer, for writing a book that actually had my heart skip a few beats....

2012-Favorite

Never, in my wildest dreams would I imagine that I would love to read a book about Aliens.
Little green men do nothing for me, but boy, oh boy, Daemon can sure curl my toes...

Katy just moved into a new town with her mom and next door to a hot guy, Daemon and his friendly sister, Dee.
Dee and Katy become fast friends but Daemon and Katy's relationship is like oil and water.
Daemon comes across as a snarky, arrogant ass, but his reasons behind his attitude toward Katy is warranted, as he only wants to protect his sister, and others like him. Secrets about these two slowly unravel as we learn who and what they are, you'll feel totally different about aliens and you just might fall for this story, and a certain alien!

Of course, there is alot more going on with this story than these two, as we learn about Daemon and his enemies, who are constantly after his kind and are ready to destroy them.
This book is full of secrets, and Daemon's coldness toward Kat at first throws you off, but slowly we learn why.
The tension from these two feels like a combustion about to explode.
He saves Katy on many occasions, but, Katy is definitely not a character who just sits around waiting to be saved. She is strong, loyal, brave, and she does her own saving of lives and kicks butt toward the end!

This book was a great YA read. Loved it.
Read it, it will not disappoint!
Twilight fans will adore this.
5+/5stars

Quotes

“Daemon: I checked out your blog.
Katy: Stalking me again, I see. Do I need to get a restraining order?
Daemon: In your dreams, Kitten. Oh wait, I'm already starring in those, aren't I?
Katy: Nightmares, Daemon. Nightmares.”

“Remind me," he paused, drawing in a stuttered gasp, "to never piss you off again. Christ, are you secretly a ninja?”

“And this is why you don’t want me to be friends with Dee, because you were afraid that I’d find out the truth?”
“That, and you’re a human. Humans are weak. They bring us nothing but trouble.”
My eyes narrowed. “We aren’t weak. And you’re on our planet. How about a little respect, buddy.”
Amusement flickered in his emerald eyes. “Point taken.”

“You look like you're twelve. No. Maybe thirteen, but my sister has this doll that kinda reminds me of you. All big-eyed and vacant

Swimming was the last thing I wanted to do. Drowning him? Maybe.”

Aliens—if they exist—are little green men with big eyes and spindly arms or…or giant insects or something like a lumpy
little creature.”

Daemon let out a loud laugh. “ET?”
“Yes! Like ET, asshole. I’m so glad you find this funny.”

“Because this absolutely insane - the craziest thing I'd ever done. Worse than giving a one-star review, scarier than asking for an interview with an author I'd give my firstborn to eat lunch with, more stupid than kissing Daemon.”
