The author has created an exciting installment in the Paranormal/Urban Fantasy genre! Rivaling authors like J.R.Ward. Her writing is fabulous, her characters likable, and engaging. The Plot is spot-on, and let's not forget the main character and her fierceness. What a treat for fans of this genre!
Soul Avenged is on my Best of 2013 list for sure and on my top ten Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy List ever read.

Ayden was one strong heroine. She is an Alexi warrior, a group formed to slay Lycans. Although, she has left the Alexi group, due to their corrupt ways, she still pursues Lycans, for revenge. Revenge for what happened to her years ago.

Ayden was attacked by a Lycan, but before she turned into one of them, her blood held a resistance to the Lycan venom that when mixed with the Lywa Antibody prevents that person to change into a Lycan. Instead, she was found by the Alexi warriors and infused with this antibody. These "warriors" take on the Lycan's attributes, in the form of enhanced power, strength etc... From then on Ayden was trained with the Alexi and became second in command, but with a corrupt leader, Ayden decides to flee, knowing full well she will be hunted by the Alexi. Seems once you are an Alexi warrior there is no other option for you, and they do not tolerate abandonment, they will hunt her down and either drag her back or kill her.

Ayden being the smart and skilled heroine that she is, comes up with a plan to avoid being detected by the Alexi, while still on the hunt to kill as many Lycans as possible. The deal she strikes happens to be with some damn, sexy Demon warriors. Brothers who basically have unmatched powers and whom can be contracted for certain jobs. These brothers are sexy, confidant, and sometimes arrogant with each other, as well as others. Ayden is under their protection and hunts down Lycans with them.

When a kill goes down a human is lunch, left for dead, or with an attack wound from a Lycan. In seven days, those who have survived the Lycan attack will be one of them, a foul-hunting machine. 
Ayden comes across a human who has been left by the Lycan group, she knows what he will become, she goes in for the kill, but something in her has been provoked. Seems that touching this human has brought back tidbits from her past, as a human. Memories that were thought to be erased from her mind, forever. Ayden is shocked over this, and decides to use this human as a way to find out what happened to her before she was attacked.

This human is Kane Walker, he was attacked and now is confused over his outcome. With Ayden telling him she will kill him because he will become "one of them(Lycan)". He wonders why she keeps him around and learns of his fate as well as the secrets behind Ayden's past life. Although, he is shunned and kept confided to a room in the Demon brothers mansion, he is slowly seeming to win over Ayden, although, she knows she will kill him at the end of the week. Kane's week is filled with torment from the change his body slowly endures, but his mind is strong and Kane is determined not to let himself become one of them, and if he does, he agrees that Ayden should kill him.

 What ensues is a plot that ensnares you with the interest. We have the Alexi warriors hunting Ayden down, as well as those vile Lycans, who are killing machines. The build-up of Kane's change, and what he will become, as well as a build-up of romance. Ayden's mysterious human past, and let's not forget the Demon brothers! I did enjoy their camaraderie  together. The last half of the book was full steam, action-packed, excitement, and had me enjoying the outcome, of course, except for the death of a character. But, things look up for the group and I only hope with fingers crossed that the author does the second book with the same "group" like setting, including the fan favorites of the group.

To all my readers who love Paranormal Romance or Urban Fantasy this should be the next book you pick up. I loved this book right from the start, The main character is a smart, strong, and  a resilient character. The secondary characters, the Demon brothers are  sexy, strong, and a whole lot of bad a**!! The romance is hot, and the enemies are unrelenting! A super debut, and I'm super excited to learn that Keri will be continuing on with this series, the next book will be one of the Demon Brothers, Logan's book.

Are we back in the 80's?? Well, if we are then SIGN ME UP! I LOVED growing up in the late 80's. The movies, music, style, everything about it. This book was like a throwback to my high school days, and I enjoyed reminiscing the fun times.

Shark Bait is a young adult book, that was very reminiscent to high school. It has strong characters, especially the secondary characters. The only issue I found with this book, was the way it dragged a little longer than I would of liked.


Camie the main female lead, was home schooled all her life until her mom falls ill, and doesn't have the strength to continue with homeschooling. So Camie, has to start high school as a sophomore.  Not only is she the "new" kid, but she's also the "never been in a classroom kid", but Camie seems to adjust to her new lifestyle rather quickly, she fits in and makes friends right away. On her first day she meets and is saved by Tristan Daniels, the hot male lead in this book. Camie is in awe of Tristan, and although he comes across as aloof, at first, you know these two will be sizziling up this story, soon enough!

Cami is instantly attracted to Tristan. He's hot and every girl wants him. He doesn't care for girls who throw themselves at him, but tends to use those girls for some, "somethin' somethin'". With Camie  she comes off as different and doesn't throw herself at him. Instead she figures he's not interested in her, but with friends like Kate telling her different, she and Kate seem to come up with a plan on how to "bag" Tristan when it seems every other girl has lost out to winning his attention longer than a romp in bed with him. Thankfully, Kate is his best friend and knows a lot about Tristan his likes/dislikes, etc. So these two girls become fast friends and work together so Camie  can win him over.

We see the typical high school drama, and antics, some were funny and had me lol, The secondary characters in this book were a great asset to this story. They made the story more believable and propelled the overall grouping to feel realistic. We also see these two, and there friendship grow to something more, but when things get hot and bothered for these two and it looks like their relationship has bloomed, something happens and everything seems to change, and it looks like they will have to overcome insecurities and more to be together.

As the book progresses, it feels eerily familiar to high school. The gossip, the "mean" girls, the lusting of virginal heat. Everything you can remember about high school from parties to friendships is laden throughout this book, with various throwbacks to 80's movies, music, etc. The secondary characters were a great asset to the story and helped the story grow. I did enjoy Shark Bait for what it was a young adult read with some heat. The only thing that I found that I didn't care for was, the dragged out inner dialogue, from the main character. If you were a fan of the movie, Pretty in Pink, then this book may be right up your alley.

Unique concept, and world, Taken is a male driven read. Although parts of this book draws out some controversy among readers, disliking the main character. I understood why some readers find a disliking to him, I didn't love him, but found him to be accurately portrayed in this Dystopian action packed mysterious world. 

 

 

 

 

 

Claysoot is a colony of people living behind enclosed walls, not knowing what's beyond those walls only that if you escape over those walls you've just bought your death certificate. If you've read the above synopsis you already know there are no men in Claysoot.  Every boy born will be turned over to The Heist, when he is eighteen. Gray is seventeen, having just lost his brother to the Heist, he knows he will be next. Gray is at a loss at what's to become of him and what has happened to his brother. He is distraught, emotional, and has mixed feelings, ranging from jealously to anger. He believes there is more to the whole conspiracy of this so-called Heist, and maybe there is after he finds information that leads him to believe there is something more "out there" beyond the walls.

 

Gray's life is about to change as he makes a decision to change his destiny, he decides to climb the wall and go over. He's not alone, though as he has a follower who just so happens to be a family friend, a girl he seems to have fallen for takes the leap with him. But, crossing over the wall is not what they both imagined.  

What he learns over that wall is a explanation of sorts as to what happens to the men of Claysoot, and now he is on a mission to start a revolution and alter everyone's life. As nothing is as it seems, and we find out this "Heist" is part of a bigger picture.

Without spoiling the rest, I can say I did enjoy reading Taken. I know some people have mixed feelings over the story, because of Gray, and I can understand why they may feel uncomfortable over some of his actions. I think I looked at it in a different light, then some of my peers. I felt like his actions were mostly spot-on. We have a boy, who is determined not to just become another Heist number. He is strong-willed and yes, sometimes arrogant, but he has watched many male members of the city disappear at eighteen.

No men in Claysoot mean "no fathers", so clearly every male born knows their destiny from a young age. Men are used at a young age to continue the population of Claysoot. They must be paired with females, that they may or may not like and impregnate the with their seed, so the population can continue on. Gray finds the whole outcome to every man's life in Claysoot to be intolerable.

 

He is determined to find out what and why this happens. I'm sure just going against the grain of everything everyone believes in is difficult enough, and to just recently loose the only last member of his family to the heist has been extremely difficult for him. That does not excuse his actions when it comes to one part of the book, and it should not be condoned. I really felt the whole "world and concept" of The Heist and the surrounding fantasy aspects of that story fully outweighed the character driven part of this story.  

All, in all I did enjoy Taken and will look forward to the next book.

When I finished the first book in this series, Fallen Too Far, I quickly picked this next book, in the series and continued on with Rush and Blaire's story, and was so NOT disappointed! Miss Glines
writes compelling, romantic, stories, infused with many realistic situations. You will fall for her characters and stories. I can't wait to dive into her other books and continue on with this series.

The last book, Fallen Too Far, left me sad, so sad I was bawling for Rush and Blaire and really thought that was The End for those two. When I picked up this book, I was expecting something that would tilt their world and yes, this next book in the series did just that!

Rush lied to Blaire, LIED!  No, he didn't cheat, he did something worse in Blaire's eyes. She's left reeling, and confused, and hurt. So she does what comes naturally to her. She heads back home, to her hometown, and reconnects with a past love, who offers to help her. Rush in the meantime has just felt his heart being ripped out of him. He's just as hurt, confused, and reeling. He in turn goes after his family, the ones who have turned Blaire's life apart for what seems like a very long time. Rush pushes his Mother away, and his sister who he has protected since as far as he can remember. He's basically had enough, and is distraught at losing Blaire. He wants her back and will do anything to win her love back. He's completely in love with her, and it's nice to see him go through the angst of losing her, because as your reading, you really want these two back together, and you can see they both struggle at the loss of each other.

One thing is for sure though is Blaire's strength. She always had a strong side to her. She's been through so much already in her past, and now even though she is alone she finds the strength to lean on her friends, and try to make sense at the next ground breaking incident in her life, because one things for sure after what she discovers about herself, nothing will ever be the same, and now she must rise up, and learn to take care of herself even more so, now. Blaire eventually returns back to the town where Rush lives, as she tries and reestablish her life, without Rush, but like I said above, Rush is fighting for her, and he makes it harder and harder for Blaire to resist him. Once he finds out the  groundbreaking news, Blaire has been hiding from him, he pulls out all the stops and truly shows his love for her.

Once again though, Rush's family seem to get in the way, and Rush feels a responsibility to them, especially when a emergency occurs and he is left with a ton of guilt. Unfourtnetly for Blair, he needs to be their for his family, and although she is left alone, again, and she feels left out, she still remains strong and is understanding to Rush's plight. As we get closer to the end we learn more secrets and they all come out, but this time the secrets are from Blaire's estranged father, as he finally explains why he made the decisions he's made and had to leave Blair and her mom behind, even though I felt he was a coward!


The story of Rush and Blaire from this book and book #1 was one that swept me away. I loved it, and am slightly sad that their story won't continue(JUST FOUND OUT! Book #5 will continue their story!), but I'm sure Abbie will incorporate them in the next book Twisted Perfection. Twisted will be about a Woods, a character in both books. Even though I failed to mention him in this review. He does play a important part in both Blaire's and his friend, Rush's life. He took care of Blair when Rush couldn't. Although, at first I thought he would be their third wheel or triangle in this series, I'm glad to say he wasn't and am looking forward to reading his story.

This book is new adult and has some hot and steamy scenes, so it's a definite 18 and over. Although, not as steamy and heart-pounding as the first one, it is a MUST READ, as you need to know if Blaire and Rush will ever get back together or if they just become friends.

Ellie Watt aka Eden White, is out for revenge! Revenge over what happened to her when she was younger. She's a bad-ass in her own right.  She comes from con artist parents, having to live the life on the road, she basically learns the life of a con, but she is different then her parents. Not having them around for support, she seeks out an old family friend, and he teaches her the ways of being a con. The do's and don'ts. She's ready for this, but having to go up against a drug lord is not an easy task. She has her mark, she's set her sights, and she's ready. The only thing she didn't anticipate was having feelings for the person that can connect her to her mark.


Jaiver YOU, YOU, dirty rotten scoundrel!  Your such a bad-ass, a ruthless sexy-mofo . You had me right from the start. A Latino lover, hmmm... Eden your one lucky girl!
But, then your true colors shined through, and you were BAD, and I mean dangerously BAD. You scared me at times, had me walking on cloud nine, and then you SHATTERED ME and MY HEART into a million pieces!! OH, and yea, Eden's too!

Jaiver is the bridge to getting to Eden's mark, but he proves to be more, oh so much more. He's suave, sexy, and oh so dangerous all at the same time. He radiates heat and danger. As these two get closer he uses his charm on Eden, and basically wins her over. He's romantic at times, loving, and so good in the bedroom. He makes her feel like a queen. Having no idea of Eden's true intentions he wraps her up in his life and they ultimately fall for each other. But, like I said Jaivar is dangerous and Eden is frightened many times by his dangerous lifestyle. She accepts him and throws caution and her quest for revenge out the window. When all is good and life can't seem to get any better, yep it happens, KABOOM, and everything Eden thought she had is now shattered into a million pieces, and she will have to deal with the ultimate betrayal.


Miss Halle does an incredible job at working you up in this short, but oh so sweet novella. You will love this book, and it is a must read for not only fans of New Adult/Adult, but fans of Urban Fantasies, yes UF, without the paranormal that's what this felt like. Love the TV show Revenge, then you will love this book. Love having a writer rip you apart at the seams, yep then this is the book for you.


Oh, and one last thing. I know a lot of people don't read novella's. I'm not sure why, maybe they feel bored by the short, or they feel that it's not long enough to wet their appetite, well I'm here to prove you wrong. This book, and many others out there are worthy of your time. So don't pass on some great reads, and insights to a series.

Sometimes Never deals with raw emotions and real life drama, and issues, as well as a strong relationship bond

 

Broken and facing so much as a teenager can either make or break you. What Hope has gone through with her life is tough at times,  but is highly relatable to many teens. She's tough and that toughness is basically her defense in life. Abused, neglected, and dealing with a drug and alcoholic mother who only cared about her next fix, until her death, leaves Hope alone, and in the care of a foster family. Dealing with her issues, she becomes a cutter who craves the pain. Hope has a lot of great attributes, she's a defender to many, she is a drummer, a gothic, hair color changer, loyal friend, and she is obbssesed with candy. She's tough at times, and cocky, even with her friends. Her foster family and friends seem to be her saving grace.

 

Her best friend, Guy is a no-holds bar, funny, and loyal friend and "brother" to Hope. He's gay and I LOVED his character!! He really was the sunshine in this book! You just couldn't not like him. There were a variety of secondary characters in this book that at first were thrown at you at a quick pace, and at times I was left confused trying to piece who was who and how they were part of Hope's life.

 

Mason, you love him, you hate him, but one thing is for sure is his love for Hope. He was totally taken by her within the first pages. They melded together like peanut butter and chocolate. He had his own broken past, and sometimes his emotions overtook him. His father passed away six years earlier and left him with responsibility of being the man of the house. His mom constantly moves, him and his younger brother from place to place, having a hard time settling down. Mason, has a hard time connecting with people at times, and dealt with his issues through anger and sex.

 

 

This book is told in dual pov's from Mason and Hope. At times I felt confused when reading from Hope's pov.  It seemed like so much was thrown at you from her pov, and at first I felt lost trying to piece everything, and everyone together, and how they fit in her life, but soon I was able to figure it all out, and got used to her "voice". Hope and Mason had a strong connection, right from the start, although Hope was non-committal to the idea of finding or liking Mason. It just seemed like the stars perfectly lined up for these two. There likes were similar, their dislikes complemented each other. Hope loved Oreo's but only the white cream, Mason liked only the cookie part. there "relationship" was like a roller coaster at times, and was emotional and deep, dark and light. Hope, having a dark past, had a tough time with dealing with Mason's love for her. She was dark, moody, and abusive at times toward Mason. It was a push/pull relationship of sorts.

 

Sometimes Never,  felt very realistic, and intense at times, and although I did enjoy it, for the most part, I really couldn't put myself 100% into the storyline. More than likely it was because of the angst, and emotions that I really didn't care for. I will say that many people enjoyed this book, and it may help people deal with their own issues, for me it was OK, but I would recommend it to fans that like realistic, dark, angsty reads.

I know you care about me. I see it in your eyes. I feel it. Everybody needs love. Everybody. And some people need it more than others. You’re a liar if you say you don’t. I’ll do that for you. I’ll love you. All you have to do is let me.”
             
The wind whispers against my back as if giving me a nudge toward her and I take it as a sign. I propel myself into her, pushing my bare skin to hers. I need to feel her. I need her to feel me.
           
This is real.

 

Blackbird Review

A great filler, from the end of Sometimes Never to the epilogue.

 

 

 

While I had issues with the first book. I actually enjoyed Blackbird, more than Sometimes Never. It filled in where Hope and Mason's life continued too. College, staying together, breaking up, getting back together. A growth of sorts as they try to make their lives together work, and heal together.

Without spoiling this short novella at about 100 pages, or so. I can say things were sorted out and you actually felt good at where these two ended up.
