For almost two years now, Kiera's boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she's ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.
Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he's purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes...and none of them will ever be the same

Thoughtless, is a self published book, that first came out in 2009. Highly successful in the Indie category, winning numerous awards it finally has been picked up by a publisher, Gallery, an imprint of Simon & Schuster has re-released the books in paperback as well as e-copies. The third highly anticipated book in the series, Reckless is due to be released March 2013.
Passionate, addicting, heartbreaking, and frustrating all wrapped up into a neat little Thoughtless package! With an intense plot, that had me pissed, excited, and intoxicated. I just COULD. NOT. PUT. THIS. BOOK. DOWN. and I'm so happy that I was approved for the second book, Effortless, because I tore into it right away.
I'm going to start by saying, putting all your feelings on a touchy subject of cheating, betrayal, and a really careless protagonist should not stop you from reading this book, because it is intense, the characters, the plot, etc.. has made some people not enjoy this book like they should be, but the way I looked at it is, it's real life, with real feelings, a rawness that can be felt throughout the pages, and a REALLY HOT SQUEE WORTHY ROCKER *dies* Man I could almost hate Kiera, are VERY lucky protagonist. She can be so annoying in this book, and seemed oblivious to whom she was hurting at the time.
But, let me explain, Kiera a young college girl, is in love with her awesome, sweet, good looking boyfriend, Denny, awww, right?
So in love in fact she decides to move cross country with him, to a new school, while he starts a new career. Basically, strapped for cash he manages to score a place with his old friend/"brother". They will be renting a room with Kellan, a >HOT< lead singer, to a uber popular band D-Bags or Douchebags, whichever fits the mood your in.
Now, I'm not sure about you, but when I was young, carefree, and slightly naïve , like Kiera I could easily *drool* for Kellan, and believe me she does a great job in the beginning to keep things platonic with him. She does love Denny, and their relationship seems to be pretty great, but when Denny is offered a job assignment that takes him to another state for a short time, Kiera is lost without him. She is sad, and lonely. Kellan, "the rock god" plays the good guy, watching over his friends girlfriend. Driving her to school and work, trying to uplift her spirits, and always looking out for her, their friendship continues to grow stronger, and when Kiera hears some not so good news from Denny, Kellan is her rock. Of course being that close to a sexy, nice guy, like Kellan, screws up your feelings, and seeing what she thinks is a loss with Denny, her and Kellan take a passionate turn to becoming more than friends, but with feelings confused, and Denny coming back into the picture it seems like all bets are off with Kellan, and Kiera wants to forget what happened between them and go back to just being friends--but I mean really how can you go back--especially with a body, like Kellan's. What plays out throughout the book is how Kiera and Kellan go through an emotional roller coaster of feelings for one another, as she tries to stay as faithful as she can to her sweet Denny.
She plays the puppet master between these two men, and it's not fun seeing the way she continues to hurt Kellan, and Denny {although he is kept in the dark, of her betrayal} But, like most people know, or learn to know is that lies, and betrayals always come back to bite you, and bite Kiera they do, as all the lies are quickly becoming unraveled and passionate continuing to heat up, she must make a choice, a choice that will hurt one of these men. A choice that she finds she cannot make and holds on to hope that maybe she can keep both of these men. A choice that seems to be already made and maybe both puppet strings will cut themselves from her forever....
I must say at times I really disliked the way Kiera seemed to play both of these men, but she did do it in a naïve sort of way. Not realizing what her circumstances will lead her, and which man she wanted to be with, and what she will lose if she makes the wrong choice is something that we all can relate too. This book was a little long, with a plot that seemed to never end, but it was a fantastic ending and looking back, now I can say I really enjoyed reading this book, and the only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars was because of the way the middle seemed to become repetitive, and lost me for a little bit, but it did satisfy me and like I said the ending was stellar, and had me feeling for Kellan on an emotional level.
Since this book is a smexy read let me just say, it is hot, and is filled with great sex scenes, but it is more than that it is a great story. It had me falling for Kellan 100%, even though I didn't agree with his choices, and he does come across as a "Douchebag" at times, I couldn't help falling for him, and cannot wait to finish the second book.

“I don't know how to let you back in." My heart beat spiked and I closed my eyes when he whispered," I don't know how to keep you out either.”
“I gently grabbed his face with my hands. "Don't leave me. You are mine...and I'm yours. I want you...and you can have me."
“I’ve never wanted anyone, like I want you. Every girl is you to me. You’re all I see…you’re all I want.”
“What if I don’t choose you, Kellan? What will you do?”
He looked away, a tear rolling down his cheek. “I’ll leave, Kiera. I’ll leave, and you and Denny can have your happily ever after.” He looked back at me. “You wouldn’t even need to tell him about me. Eventually, the two of you…” his voice broke and another tear fell on his cheek, “the two of you would get married, and have children, and have a great life.”
I fought back a sob. “And you? What happens to you in that scenario?”
“I…get by. And I miss you, every day,” he whispered.”

Check out the book trailer for Thoughtless, made by a fan! It came out great!!
Awesome review!! This book sounds really great. That book trailer is really good too. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI've had this book for months, and I really need to just read it already! I think it's important that you said to put aside feelings of cheating and whatnot. People tend to review books by the characters actions instead of the writing, forgetting that real people eff up all the time.
ReplyDeleteYou have me so excited to read Thoughtless. Great review!
Delightful review and my cursor has hovered over this book at B&N's website several times..thanks for a review I can trust.
ReplyDeleteLovely review! I haven't heard of this one, but I think I will definitely have to check it out. I loved the quotes you included in your review; they're so raw, especially that last one!
