Blood’s Voice
(Book One of the House Millar series)
by Áine P Massie

Title: Blood’s Voice
Author: Áine P Massie
Publisher: Geas Publishing
Series: House Millar, #1
Genre: New Adult, Paranormal, Romance
Length: Novel

Anya Millar had no memory of her life or an instruction manual on how to navigate the insane world of humans, biting, and reality. Instead, Anya has had to learn to navigate the world of love, life, and sanity while avoiding those that would see her dead or enslaved.
Anya must come to terms with who she is and her missing past, Nicholas must win back the object of his eternal love while dealing with new cravings in his silent heart, and Declán must learn to destroy the very creatures that he has unequivocally given his heart and blood.
This is the ongoing journey of Anya and Nicholas, human loving vampires and the human they love, Declán. What makes it all more complicated is that they are abominations in their own world and Declán is a natural born vampire hunter called a Guardian.

Praise for Blood’s Voice

“Aine’s love for her characters shines in Blood’s Voice. She gives you a reason to become invested in their well-being. The definition of love triangle takes on a whole new meaning in the House of Millar. I was surprised in a most pleasant sort of way. This book does not contain the constant bickering and whining that are found in a lot of YA literature…a refreshing change. And, before I forget…a big thanks to Aine for her inclusion of alternate lifestyles in a very compelling manner.” – Kristin @ Better Read Than Dead

“I like the issues of LGBT that are brought up in the story and felt they were just enough of a sample of that lifestyle to not offend close minded individuals. It was very realistic and I enjoyed reading more about it. There is a ménage de trois alluded to in the book so some people may be a bit uncomfortable with that part of the story. From my point of view, it was very well written and only enhanced the book. I give this a 4 fair review as it was a very romantic story with paranormal elements that drew you in with the intricate plot.” – Heather @ Earth’s Book Nook

“Most of the vampires in this series have some type of unique ability. Especially Anya. She gives a new meaning to the coin phrase of “I get whatever I want”. You follow her on her adventures of trying to fit in with humans and seemingly thwarted by her own kind almost every time. She begins to have feelings for Nickolas, as well as Declan but they are different and easy to separate. At least for her. She loves whom she loves. Towards the middle of the book I grew a little envious of her situation.” – Nikki @ CEWTNK

“This is one book I could not put down at all and this is really one I want to read book #2 as soon as I can. Very well written and a great Young Adult book. If you are into Young Adult vampire books I think you will most likely like this book.” – Chantale @ Geeky Girl Reviews

“The author did a great job keeping my interest and making me want to finish the story to find out what happened next. They’re lots of surprises along the way and some things that truly didn’t expect but that just made it better than I thought the ending was going to be!” – Christina @ Intoxicated by Books

“This was an absolute pleasure to read, and an easy story to get into. I had no trouble getting lost in the pages and the storyline. Aine P. Massie has a very unique writing style which I found very pleasant. The characters never once got on my nerve. I quite enjoyed reading about them.” – Kyanara Night @ Kyanara’s Mad Reviews

“It’s a really easy book to read, I literally swallowed it in two days, and I really liked it! I recommend this book to all those who love vampire stories with romance, and those who like to learn new languages and cultures… Yes? Why? Well, because the author will delight us with a sweet romance full of phrases and words in Irish. : ) Happy Reading!” – Idris @ Throwing Books

Praise for Blood Bound

Áine gave me even more reasons than ever to love her strong and charismatic cast of characters. Each stepped up their game in the newest book. I will be looking forward to the next installment of House Millar, which I understand will not be from Anya’s point of view. Sounds interesting. If you love a good vampire story…Blood’s Voice and Blood Bound are great choices.” — Kristin @ Better Read Than Dead

“I love the way she made all of the characters work together in one way or the other. Anya shows lots of important vampires that she is NOT one to mess with. She claims her position as Mistress in more ways than one and she does so very well. I especially liked the “letter” at the end! Definitely got me ready for book three!” — Christina  @ Intoxicated by Books

“Although it’s a book about vampires, there are some surprisingly well thought out themes that play throughout the book. I loved the way Anya’s personality has grown and she’s really progressed as a character since book 1. Some of my favorite scenes were the tender moments between Anya and Nicholas and the love story that really builds inthis book.” — Vanessa @ Boekie’s Book Reviews

“I can assure you….. this book is like the first one. A wonderfull read. Easy to get into and easy to follow book. You get to meet some new characters, but also the characters I loved from book one are back. … Awesome book!!!” — Kyanara @ Kyanara’s Mad Reviews

“This time around, I was pulled right into the story. This book starts right where the last one ended. I enjoyed reading more about Anya’s back-story and got to know some more characters and their back stories. Anya is head of her own house now and she seems to be collecting more eclectic members this time around. I recommend this book for paranormal romance fans for its sensual scenes and titillating drama.” — Heather @ Earth’s Book Nook

Blood’s Voice has been a long time in coming and with its publication (June 2011) Áine embarked on a new chapter in her life.

Hello!
First I wish to thank Lisa for the invitation to do a Guest Post here on Paranormal Urban Fantasy Reviews. My name is Áine P Massie and I am the author of the House Millar series – Blood’s Voice and Blood Bound.

Characters and how they became who they are –

I’m sure many of you have heard how Anya came to be . . . that she was originally thought up and fleshed out from an idea for an RPG, but what many don’t know if that thinking her up was only the beginning of a long and arduous process.  Creating and fully developing Nicholas and Declán, the other two main characters in Blood’s Voice was a frustrating and interesting journey.

I wanted two strong but different males to join Anya’s little circle and so the seeds of Nic and then Dec were needed to not just be thought up for so was their history, personality, wants, fears, etc.  I searched within, thought about what would compliment and work with Anya, and even went online to research character development and interviews.  There are many wonderful sites out there that have various ways to plan out characters . . . and while that did help, I didn’t want them to end up being rigid ether.

For me this was a huge deal and is a topic I think all writers, aspiring or wizened, should spend time and focus working on.  In the end, I used the wonderful design from Fiction Writers along with Wikipedia to help me.

Declán was to be a human that was drawn, inexplicitly to Anya, our vampire heroine.  He needed to be sweet, loyal, dedicated, intelligent, and cute.  While he is very powerful and sexy, it’s in a boy-next-door kind of way.  Nic on the other hand had to be demanding, strong, someone to drive Anya to be more than just ‘a girl’ and she would need someone that knew who she was before.

I know authors that detest character interviews but I actually wrote out probably four or five for the three main and one or two for the other featured characters in the stories.  I redo this before working on the next story, each time, to make sure that I have the character outline and focus set before hand.

Here’s the catch though . . . for me – and other authors as well I’ve heard – characters tend to get wilful and decide they know better than the author and go off on tangents, often derailing plans.  When this starts to happen I tend to return to the interviews, often focusing on the issue at hand and writing that.  I have written so much that never makes it into the books I could probably fill at least another one, lol.

Back to the point though – remember I mentioned tangents ;) – sketching out and investigating characters before you try writing about them is invaluable.  At least to me it is.  I hope any aspiring authors out there give the design above a look-see and maybe it will inspire some.  I know it did me!  (It also helps when bloggers ask for character interview to really know your character.)
