Dead Witch Walking/ Kim Harrison /My Review

Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1)

All the creatures of the night gather in "the Hollows" of Cincinnati, to hide, to prowl, to party...and to feed.

Vampires rule the darkness in a predator-eat-predator world rife with dangers beyond imagining - and it's Rachel Morgan's job to keep that world civilized.

A bounty hunter and witch with serious sex appeal and an attitude, she'll bring 'em back alive, dead...or undead. ~Goodreads

My Review~
This book had all the elements of a story that I look for in a book. Witches, vamps, other paranormal creatures like pixies, fairies, demons, kick butt-chicks. But, what it was lacking in the begining was a feeling to grab you and absorb you into this book and it's characters.
I found the writing style to be painful at times and actual boredom creeping through me, forcing my way thru this book. I actually wanted to stop reading it, and put it away to finish another day, or never! But that feeling would soon disappear when the next page peeked my interst and signs of Harrison's true writing ability stood out. At times this book intrigued me and had me turning pages and at other times I wanted to throw it threw the wall.
Harrison being a well loved writer and this series being so highly reviewed and recommended, I felt there had to be something more, something that had me wanting to trudge ahead and actually finish the book. I'm glad I stuck to it and finished it because the writing style improves and the storyline only gets better. With the second part of this book being refreshing, interesting, and action infused.
I fell for the series, due in part to the second half of the book. So I would recommend sticking to it, and finishing it. It does get better, and you will feel triumphant when it is finished.  4 stars

  1. I've seen this book on Amazon several times and always thought it sounded pretty good. It's a bummer that the first half of the book was so frustrating, but at least it redeemed itself! I'll have to check it out some time. Great review! =)

  2. Really you found it so painful off and on? I loved it right away. Of course - the reread that I did ...now a few of those were painful! haha. I Hated A Perfect Blood! (I think thats like book 11?)
